Twenty-seven years ago, Pam and I
began an incredible journey together. We
had many hopes and dreams, and of course a vision of just how we believed they
would play out. However, the journey
itself bares little resemblance to the one we had conjured up in our minds.
We planned to have a large family,
and hoped to adopt children. We have
always shared a passion for helping children in need and we hoped one day we
could serve as missionaries serving children.
We believe children are the future of the world and the key to changing
the world for Christ.
Looking back, God has certainly
blessed us with the large family we prayed for; though I am not sure eleven is
the number we had in mind. The fact
is, not much about our journey followed the timelines and perimeters we had
planned. God’s wisdom prevailed and
we have ended up with the exact size family, at the exact right time we were
meant to have them.
God continues to bless us and
answer our prayers within His timing and perimeters. The call to serve children as missionaries in another country
has been presented to us. We have
prayed about it and sought wise counsel and we believe this is a call to
service from our Lord. The timing and our situation are
certainly not the picture we had in mind when we dreamed of serving as
missionaries while college students at Cincinnati Christian University. This however, is the time and
circumstances that He has chosen.
For the past ten years, we have
been foster / adoptive parents. We
were licensed to operate a group home for up to 12 children at a time. I have also taught classes and completed
home studies for potential foster parents. It
is with this experience and knowledge; I have accepted the task of assisting in
developing a ministry to support the children at Niños de Mexico transition
from living in the children’s home, to a life of independence. Most of the children living at Niños have
no contact with their biologic families. They
do not have the natural supports most of us have to encourage and guide us as
we move from adolescence to adulthood.
Niños does a great job of meeting
the spiritual, physical, and educational needs of the children in their care. They learn to love the Lord, and feel
secure in their environment. There
is, however a need to support them as they move on. We have seen the struggle many of the foster children in the
states deal with as they age out of the system. They need to know there are supports available to help them
succeed. Most of us have a support
system of family and friends when we are struggling with decisions as we
endeavor to stand on our own two feet. We
will be working with the Niños’ staff and teachers to implement programs to
give them the tools they will need to be successful as they move on. We would also like to have an ongoing
support system in place for them to access as needed after they have moved on.
This is a ministry we are passionate about,
but we know God is not calling us to do this alone.
We are confident He wants others to be a part of our ministry
team. We are asking for you to
prayerfully consider partnering with us as we answer God’s call to minister to
the children He has placed in the loving care of Niños de Mexico. We
believe God has given us this vision and He will make the provision to
undertake His ministry.
We will need approximately $6,000
per month to support the work we will be doing. We are asking you as our brothers and sisters in Christ to
prayerfully consider using part of what He has blessed you with to give $100 a
month, or whatever you are lead to give, in support of the children at Niños de Mexico. Please
pray as we begin this important ministry. We
hope many of you will be able to take part in a short term mission trip to join
us on the field and experience what God is doing at Niños. Any monthly supports or gifts you give are tax deductible and
will be given through Niños de Mexico in our name. This can be done online at www.ninosdemexico.org
or by mail to:
